Biography

Dr. McHugh has been a member of the Centenary University community since 1999 when he began his teaching career as an adjunct professor. He is a veteran of the US Army/Reserve and was employed by BASF Corporation in numerous accounting, finance and sales force operations positions. Dr. McHugh accepted a full-time Professor position with Centenary University in 2001. During his tenure with Centenary, Dr. McHugh has served as the Founder/Advisor of the Centenary University Federal Reserve Challenge Team, Advisor of the Centenary University Students In Free Enterprise Team (SIFE), served as the Business Department Chairperson and the Director of Business Graduate Studies. He is particularly proud to have mentored Centenary’s SIFE Team to multiple National Rankings, including a National Top 12 Ranking in 2008 and to a National First Place award in the SIFE Entrepreneurship Special Topic Competition. Dr. McHugh was named Centenary University’s United Methodist Church Professor of the Year in 2008 and the National SIFE Advisor of the Year, also in 2008. He also served on SIFE’s National Advisors Board from 2008 to 2011.

Research

Dr. McHugh’s research interest resides in two categories.  The first focus of his research targets Experiential Educational Methodology’s use to prepare Business students for their careers. This research evaluates the needs of real world business organizations, and the skills they desire in college graduates. The research then continues with practical examples of educational techniques and methods to best instill these qualities and skills in business graduates. Dr. McHugh’s second area of research focuses on entrepreneurship and small business development. Dr. McHugh has consulted with a number of new and small businesses with considerable success gained by the ventures. Dr. McHugh has published and presented original work on both areas of research.
