Biography

Hyo-Chong Yoo is currently teaching Fine Arts as an Associate Professor of Fine Arts at Centenary University, New Jersey since 1995. Prior to Centenary, I was working at Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey for 17 years, starting as an adjunct of fine Arts,1978, full time instructor of Fine Arts in 1988 until 1995, when the institution closed, at the rank of Assistant Professor of Fine Arts, and Tenured.

At both institutions, my role involved with international affairs. At Upsala, as Korean& Japanese Liaison as well as the founder  and Co-Director of “Summer Culture and Language Program for international students, and at Centenary University, as Assistant director of International programs, 1995-2011, Associate Dean of School of international Programs.

I have B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Ewha Womans University in Seoul, Korea and Post Graduate Studies in painting at National Academy of Design in New York with Robert Phillip for four years with Tiffany Foundation Scholarship. Further studies were at New York Art Student League with Daniel Green for pastel technique for 2-years, and with Robert B. Hale for Anatomy and Figure Drawing for one year. Also, became a member of Lorillard Wolfe Arts Club, as the first Asian Woman since the club has founded in 1896.

As a professional painter, I have received numerous distinguished awards, served as judge for selection and awards at numerous New Jersey State wide Art Fairs and Art Shows, and was invited as demonstration artist to New Jersey Water Color Society and Essex County Art Society for Oriental Brush Painting.  In 1994, I served as a consultant to Newark Museum’s “Korea Exhibit”, and painted two wall paintings ( each measures 84” x 160”) for the event. I have, also, participated at an international art show:  “Comparaisons-2011, Art En Capital” which was held at Grand Palais-Champs-Elysee-Paris, France.
