Borrowing money for school is a serious, long-term, financial obligation. We want to insure that all borrowers learn how to handle their finances so that they are in a position to repay their loan debts after they leave Centenary.
The Department of Education mandates that all first time Federal Direct Student Loan and Federal Grad PLUS borrowers complete an “entrance counseling” session before receiving their first loan. Entrance Counseling will inform you of your rights and responsibilities as a borrower.
You must also complete their Master Promissory Note (MPN) which is your legally binding promise to repay the loan funds you receive.
Loan proceeds cannot be credited your student account until you fulfill these requirements.
- You can complete both your Entrance Counseling and MPN online at www.studentloans.gov. To do so,
Sign on to the StudentLoans.gov site. The log in page will request your Social Security Number, name, date of birth and Federal Student Aid PIN.
- Click on Complete Entrance Counseling and follow the instructions through completion of your Entrance Counseling. It is recommended that you print out confirmation once it is complete for your records.
- After you have completed your entrance counseling, click the “Complete MPN” link on the left to complete your MPN. Be sure to complete the correct MPN for you loan. You can review your loan type through NetPartner. Once you have completed your MPN, it is recommended that you print out the completed MPN for your records.
- Be sure to logout of studentloans.gov once you have completed your Entrance Counseling and MPN.
