Hackettstown, N.J., November 10, 2015 – Dr. Marianne Pratschler, Associate Professor of Education at Centenary University, was selected to attend the 2015 NCAA Division III Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Fellows Institute. This was the sixth annual Institute, the aim of which was to increase the effectiveness of Division III FARs at the campus, conference and national levels. Participants committed to drafting an action plan at the Institute and to take steps to carry out that plan on campus. The Institute was held at the NCAA National Office in Indianapolis from October 16-18, 2015.
Thirty-two representatives were selected out of 450 Division III FAR delegates by the Division III. Dr. Pratschler was nominated by Colonial States Athletic Conference Commissioner (CSAC) Jennifer Dubow.
“I am thrilled that Dr. Pratschler was able to represent CSAC at the NCAA FAR Institute,” says Dubow. “She is a very active participant within our conference. She attended the Regional Rules Seminar last summer and our Special Olympics service event. Dr. Pratschler stays active on NCAA issues and is a frequent contributor at CSAC FAR meetings. I am pleased that she was chosen to attend on behalf of our conference on a national level.”
The workshops focused on FAR strengths and challenges. Those who participated learned about roles that one can participate in as a FAR. Dr. Pratschler, who has been Centenary’s FAR representative for four years, was impressed with the content of the sessions and felt rejuvenated afterwards.
“I felt that I was armed with additional information that I can apply to this role,” says Dr. Pratschler. “It is my intention to ensure that student athletes have a positive experience and that they are aware of opportunities that are available to them, such as internships, scholarships and more.”
Dr. Pratschler is an alumna of Centenary University with an A.A. in Early Childhood Education and a B.S. in Elementary Education. She holds certifications as Elementary Teacher (K-8) with Nursery School Endorsement, Teacher of English (K-12), Teacher of Psychology, Teacher of the Handicapped and Supervisor. She received a M.A. in Counseling with a concentration in Student Personnel Services in Higher Education from Montclair State University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She holds an Ed.D. in Teacher Leadership from Walden University.
