Hackettstown, N.J., August 23, 2017 – Centenary University will continue its longstanding commitment to community service when the Class of 2021 carries forth one of the institution’s primary missions by engaging in “Community Plunge” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2017.

Centenary University has long been known for its innovative approach to education, and in 1990, the institution became the first in New Jersey to introduce community service as a required part of its curriculum.

On August 28, there will be a wide variety of locations and activities where first-year students will volunteer their time. Most of the locations are local nonprofits.

“Our students are very fortunate to work together and immerse themselves in community service as soon as they get on campus,” says Allison Galvin, Director of Student Engagement at Centenary University. “It is often a memorable experience for all involved and it continues to be an important initiative for the institution. This year each student has been assigned to a site that relates to their major. This will foster additional service learning opportunities for our first year students.”

  • Family Guidance Center (to be conducted at Centenary University)
  • Father John’s Animal House (Lafayette, N.J.)
  • Hackettstown BID
  • Hackettstown Sports Academy
  • Hatchery Hill Elementary School (Hackettstown, N.J.)
  • Heath Village Retirement Community (Washington Township, N.J.)
  • H.I.L.L.S. House & Midnight Run Closet (Hackettstown, N.J.)
  • Last Chance Ranch (Quakertown, Pa.)
  • Mount Olive Community Garden
  • Mylestone Equine Rescue (Phillipsburg, N.J.)
  • Norwescap (to be conducted at Centenary University)
  • Trinity Thrift Shop (Hackettstown, N.J.)
  • United States Equestrian Team Foundation (Gladstone, N.J.)
  • Warren County Library: Northeast Branch (Independence, N.J.)

Founded in 1867 by the Newark Conference of the United Methodist Church, Centenary University’s academic program integrates a solid liberal arts foundation with a strong career orientation. Centenary University’s main campus is located in Hackettstown, N.J., with its equestrian facility in Washington Township (Morris County). The Centenary School of Professional Studies offers degree programs in two locations: Parsippany and Edison, and at corporate sites throughout New Jersey.
