 Hackettstown, N.J., March 27, 2017 – “Re:THINKING: A Documentary about Education in America” will be shown at Centenary University at 6:30 p.m. on April 3, 2017 at the Sitnik Theatre in the David and Carol Lackland Center. There will be a discussion with producer and director Deborah Hoard after the event. This event is hosted by Centenary University’s Education Department and Kappa Delta Epsilon Honor Society and sponsored by YoBlast Frozen Yogurt in Mansfield Township. This is a free event that is open to the public. Refreshments will be available after the discussion.

“It is important to bring these type of opportunities to the community to encourage thoughtful discussion and insight regarding the topic of public education across the United States, as well as locally,” says Dr. Timothy Frederiks, Assistant Professor of Education and Chair of the Education Department at Centenary University.

“Re-THINKING” follows three public schools over the course of three years and asks the question, “What if we taught students HOW to think instead of WHAT to think? The film shows the powerful, positive change that occurs when teachers and students work together to build knowledge instead of memorize information. One of the schools highlighted is Green Hills School in Green Township (Sussex County).

Hoard says the response to initial screenings has been powerful and very emotional, especially among educators and parents who want the best for the children in their care.

“We worked very hard to make a film that supports students, teachers, administrators and parents alike, as we explore ways to create a public school system where young people can learn to think critically and creatively, and build the skills that our society needs for our democracy to thrive,” she says.
