Centenary University graduate student, Teresa Muzzo, was highlighted in the NJ Herald recently. Read more below about the Sussex County Teacher of the Year.

NEWTON — To the untrained eye, middle school teacher Teresa Muzzo’s classroom may seem a little chaotic. A sign on the wall reads: “Do you know how to relax?” By the looks of things, the answer is yes.

Students stretch out on cushions to read on the floor or balance on wobbly stools while Muzzo wanders through them, checking in. Then, when the time is right, the books go away and everyone stretches for a mid-class dance break.

“I swear, there’s a method to the madness,” Muzzo said, laughing. “Not all students learn the same way. I wanted to create a positive learning environment where they could learn to feel respected for their differences instead of isolated because of them.”
