Ameer Copper (Production Coordinator)

My name is Ameer Copper, a graduate of Centenary University class of 2018. I majored in Communication concentrating in TV/Radio Studies with a minor in Theatre. Initially I majored in Theatre: Production Management, where he was able to get hands on experience Acting, building sets, and stage managing. Some of the shows I was a part of on stage and behind the scenes include: Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily, Young Frankenstein, Peter Pan, A Christmas Carol and many more.

With the goal to eventually work in live award shows and concerts, I used his theatre production management and dance background to enhance my transition into TV. While at Centenary, I was able to intern at MTV in Production Management. That eventually turned into a full time job and I worked on the MTV Video Music Awards directly after graduating from Centenary.

I currently work in the Digital/TV space as a Production Coordinator for Viacom Digital Studios. There I help to produce digital content for brands such as BET, MTV, VH1, CMT, and Nickelodeon across all social platforms.

This year, two peers and I launched a production company called Thee Trio Production. During the pandemic, we produced a digital series that helps people explore their inner thoughts and reflect on their childhood memories. ‘Note To Self’ is our first YouTube series and we have a ton of other series and brand campaigns coming soon.

All in all, Centenary’s Theatre and TV programs have helped me grow from a young, curious, eager freshman into a professional freelancer and entrepreneur. Something that I would tell all artists who want to make it in the creative space is make art on your own. Don’t wait for an opportunity to present itself; Do the work now. The industry is ever changing and you need to make sure you are sharpening your skills even when the work isn’t coming in. Make each day count. Keep Creating, we are needed!
