CENTENARY PROFESSOR TO SPEAK AT RUTHERFURD HALL ABOUT GIRLS IN EDUCATION
Hackettstown, N.J. January 25, 2017 – The second lecture in the Centenary University Lecture Series, sponsored by the The House of the Good Shepherd, will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Rutherfurd Hall, 1686 Route 517, Allamuchy, N.J.
Centenary University’s own Dr. Emily Anderson, Assistant Professor of Education, will present a lecture titled “From Empowerment to Equity: Girls’ Education in International and Comparative Perspectives.” This free lecture will acknowledge how and why girls’ access to schooling has become a central focus in education and will work to uncover the ways that girls’ education policy discourses are diffused and enacted both comparatively and internationally.
Dr. Anderson is an Assistant Professor of Education in the Department of Education Studies at Centenary University. Her research investigates girls’ education policy and advocacy, school related gender based violence and teacher education and training in international and comparative perspectives. Dr. Anderson teaches the introductory course sequence for candidates to the Education Department programs and research methods at the graduate-level.
Dr. Anderson holds a Ph.D. in Educational Theory and Policy and Comparative and International Education at Pennsylvania State University, a MA in Comparative and International Education and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University.

Rutherfurd Hall is designated as a National and New Jersey State Historic Landmark. Famed architect, Whitney Warren, designed the 18,000 square foot Tudor country home in Allamuchy, NJ in 1904. Warren also designed Grand Central Station in New York City as Warren and Wetmore Architects (1903-1911). Frederick Law Olmsted & Sons designed the landscape plan and the plantings for the site. It now serves as a cultural center and a museum owned and managed by the Allamuchy Board of Education. Rutherfurd Hall provides educational and enrichment opportunities for the residents of Allamuchy and the surrounding communities.
