Tutoring:

The Tutoring Center assists students in becoming independent learners by offering resources and various modes of tutoring to help students succeed. The Tutoring Center staffs Professional Tutors that have a post-secondary degree and have completed a tutor training program, as well as Peer Tutors who are Centenary University students who have received at least an A- in the courses they tutor and have completed mandatory Peer Tutor Training.

Roles of the Tutor:

-Be responsive, friendly, and knowledgeable in their subject area
-Help students become confident and successful learners
-Encourage students to use strategies that will improve independent learning
-Uphold the Tutoring Center’s policies and procedures

Roles of the Student:

-Be on time and prepared for each tutoring session
-Actively participate in tutoring sessions in order to improve mastery of material
-Uphold the Tutoring Center’s policies and procedures

The Tutor Center has many resources available to students including to-do list templates, weekly planners, homework organizers, and materials on note-taking, study strategies, test-taking tips, and more.  Fall Tutoring Center Hours:

Monday: 9:00am-6:00pm
Tuesday: 9:00am-4:00pm
Wednesday: 9:00am- 4:00pm
Thursday: 9:00am-4:00pm
Friday: Open at 9:00am and closing hours may vary week to week

The Tutoring Center is located in the lower level of the Seay Building. Inside the Tutoring Center, students will find cubicles and rooms that can be used as study space. There are also computers available for student use.


Become a Peer Tutor:

The Academic Success and Advising Center is currently seeking students who believe they would be qualified to be a Peer Tutor. In addition to the qualifications listed, each applicant must submit a completed application to Abbie Davis at Abigail.Davis@centenaryuniversity.edu. Peer Tutors may tutor individuals or small groups, and all tutoring will take place in the Tutoring Center located in the Seay Building.

Become a Professional Tutor:

Centenary’s Professional Tutors have post-secondary degrees and must complete tutor training in order to begin tutoring. The responsibilities of Professional Tutors include being able to interact and communicate successfully with undergraduate students, provide individual or group tutoring sessions in specific subjects, and encourage the use of strategies that promote independent learning.
