Dr. Linskey is Professor Emeritus of Criminal Justice & Sociology and founder of the University’s bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and master’s degree in Leadership & Public Administration programs.

Initially serving 10 years in the faculty, with the last six as Chair of the Department of Social Sciences, Dr. Linskey then served for nearly eight years as Dean of International Programs, while continuing to teach in the Department of Social Sciences. Having returned to the faculty, he served as the coordinator of the Criminal Justice program.

Dr. Linskey is a retired captain of police with 27 years of law enforcement experience. Four years of service as a military police officer in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War were followed by a career as a municipal police officer with the Franklin Township Police Department, Somerset County, New Jersey. The police career provided experience in patrol, traffic, investigations, and administration, and service as commander of all three divisions of the department. At retirement, Dr. Linskey was second in command of the department and assistant to the chief of police.

Dr. Linskey was a founding instructor of the Somerset County Police Academy, where he continues to instruct. For thirteen years he served as a Hostage Negotiator with the Somerset County Emergency Response Team. He served as a developer and lead instructor for the New Jersey Regional Community Policing Institute and is a Certified Law Enforcement Planner. He is a member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the Police Executive Research Forum, and previously served as president, treasurer and secretary for the New Jersey Association of Criminal Justice Educators. Dr. Linskey has consulted and lectured nationally on the police sciences and management, has served as a visiting professor at Ewha Woman’s University in Seoul, Korea, and has guest lectured at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Rutgers University, and Yongin University, Korea. Primary areas of research include police leadership & supervision, and community policing, having published in both of these areas.

In May of 2022, after 21 ½ years of service to the University, Dr. Linskey retired from his full-time position and was honored by the Board of Trustees awarding him the title of Professor Emeritus in “recognition of distinguished service to Centenary University.”
