Biography

Professor Kathleen Welsh brings to Centenary University over 38 years of experience in special education as a teacher, Learning Disability Teacher-Consultant, Building Coordinator, Testing Coordinator, and Supervisor of Special Services.   She has worked with a wide variety of students from pre-school to adults.  Throughout her career she has developed programs for students with special education needs including the development of school-wide programs, individualized programming, and behavioral programs.

Professor Welsh was born and raised in Scranton, PA.  She received a Bachelor of Science from East Stroudsburg University.  While working as a full-time teacher and coaching swimming, she obtained a Master of Science in Special Education with an LDT-C certification from The College of New Jersey.   She continued her education at Centenary University to obtain her Supervisor’s Certificate in education.

As an LDT-C, Professor Welsh shared a journey with parents to guide their children through the special education process and provide transition services from home to school-based services, between grade levels and into adult life.  This vocation continued when she worked as a Supervisor of Special Services in the Blairstown School District.  During this time, she was responsible for the special education, guidance, and health office departments of the school.  Throughout her career, she provided workshops and in-services to school districts and parent groups about a variety of topics in special education.  A lifelong learner, she continues in her pursuits of education through coursework and workshops.

Professor Welsh became a full-time Assistant Professor of Education at Centenary University in August 2022.
