Equine Student of the Semester – Corey Osborn

Corey Osborn has been named the Spring 2020 Equine Student of the Semester by Centenary University’s Equine Faculty and Staff. The award is given out each semester to a student who demonstrates exceptional abilities, interest, and/or compassion in horsemanship. Corey exemplifies these principles and standards and has shown an exceptional work ethic and positive attitude around the horses, staff, and faculty at the Equestrian Center.

Corey transferred to Centenary during the spring of his freshman year to pursue his interest in the pre-veterinary program that Centenary has to offer. He quickly became an integral part of the Equine program whether it was doing work-study at the barn, participating in vet hours, or riding and competing on the IHSA team. In Corey’s free time you will often find him at the barn riding any horse that is available whether it is our upper level horses or our beginner horses. At the IHSA horse shows, he can be found working hard in the barn to prepare all the horses to look their best and once the day is over, you can find him jumping around on foot to keep the team entertained on the long days.

Upon graduating from Centenary in 2022, Corey has the plan to pursue his veterinary degree or possibly to turn professional. We are very fortunate to have Corey as a member of the Centenary Equine program and we know that he will represent the school well in his future.

Lindsay is a very familiar face around the Equestrian Center; she has held positions working in the barn and as a veterinary work study student, and she can also be found in the classroom fulfilling requirements for the Equine Studies major. In the barn, Lindsay is far more than an exemplary student employee. She is regularly one of the first volunteers outside work hours to help peers find their way around the barn, staff with veterinary treatments, and faculty with research or projects. Throughout high school, she developed an interest in natural horse care and natural horsemanship and independently studied these subjects.

As a sophomore at Centenary, Lucile has been able to immerse herself in equine science. Furlong and Associates.

Upon graduation, Lucile has aspirations to be a veterinary technician, certified in equine massage. Her long term goals are to open “Chestnut Pine Farm,” a natural horse boarding facility based on the “Track Paddock system,” and to one day be a professor of Equine Studies. We cannot thank Lucile enough for her hard work and dedication to our program, and her care horse Claire. These kind of efforts will get her very far in the equine industry, and her hard work has not gone unnoticed by faculty and staff!
