Biography

It is with great excitement that we announce Dr. Jesslyn Bryk-Lucy has joined the Centenary Equine Department as Assistant Professor of Equine Studies as well as the resident Veterinarian for all of the school’s horses. She has been riding and showing since her days in the large pony hunters as a child.

Dr. Bryk-Lucy completed her undergraduate work at Cornell University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, Magna Cum Laude, with Distinction in Research. Her Senior Honors Thesis was titled “Analysis of D-Lactate Concentrations in Ovine Blood and their Relationship to Acidosis”. During her undergraduate studies, Dr. Bryk-Lucy did some breaking and training as well as dabbling in Dressage, Saddleseat and Morgan horses.

After receiving her undergraduate degree, Dr. Bryk-Lucy took a position as a trainer alongside local professional hunter/jumper trainer, Kevin McQueen, at Mill Stone Farm. S he also did some teaching as an Adjunct Professor here at Centenary in the Equine Department. It was not long after that Dr. Bryk-Lucy determined she wanted to pursue a veterinary career, and returned to Cornell University Veterinary School where she graduated with her DVM in 2009.

After graduating, Dr. Bryk-Lucy worked at Blue Ridge Equine Clinic in Charlottesville, Virginia as an intern. She then returned to New Jersey to work at East Coast Equine Veterinary Services and more recently worked as a Supervisory Public Health Veterinarian for the USDA. Currently, Dr. Bryk-Lucy is pursuing her certificate in Equine Acupuncture.

Some of Dr. Bryk-Lucy’s courses include Equine Health I, Equine Health II, Equine Musculoskeletal System I, Equine Musculoskeletal System II, and Equine Reproduction. In her “off time” Dr. Bryk-Lucy enjoys spending time with her husband and with her dog who is training as a “dock jumper” (distance jumping off a dock into the water). She also enjoys riding her horse, hiking, biking and traveling.
