Centenary University Science Department offers a few different undergraduate programs: B.S. in Biology, Forensic Science, Environmental Science, Medical Lab Science and in collaboration with the Equine studies, Animal Health pre-veterinary program. Our programs will provide you with a strong foundation in the field of the life sciences while you also explore a variety of interests within the natural sciences.
Our Biology program provides a well-rounded education in both the liberal arts and sciences. Students take core courses in biology, chemistry, physics, animal and human anatomy & physiology, ecology, microbiology and calculus and advance to higher-level classes in areas including genetics and biochemistry.
The Forensic Science program expands your solid science background with knowledge of the Criminal Justice system to prepare you for a career as a scientist in a crime lab.
The Environmental Science program focuses on the science of sustainability and prepares graduates for conservation and research careers in the field of environmental protection.
The Medical Lab Science program prepares students through a rigorous curriculum and clinical practice for careers in medical diagnostic laboratories. At the end of their studies, students take their ASCP registry exam.
The Animal Health pre-veterinary program is hosted in both the Science and the Equine departments and features two tracks: small animal and equine tracks. The program introduces students to animal handling and veterinary-specific skills early on, along with all prerequisites for most veterinary schools.
A Focus On Research
Our science students also have many opportunities to participate in scientific research, including working right alongside a primary investigator in an academic or professional organization. Students engaged in research are encouraged and supported in their efforts to present their findings at regional, national, and international conferences.

The Next Level
As a Centenary Science major, you can fulfill all of the requirements for graduate studies in various fields of biology, veterinary school, medical school, dental school, environmental or forensic science. Our graduates easily transition directly into careers in business, health care and research. Through Centenary’s teacher preparation program, you can also become certified to teach biology in New Jersey.
In addition to our strong academic program, you will be ready for what lies ahead by participating in internships in industries including pharmaceuticals, environmental science and medical science. These internships are matched with students’ interests and often result in employment opportunities after graduation.
