Field education has been identified by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) as the “signature pedagogy” in Social Work education, meaning that it is the central form of instruction and learning in which the profession socializes its students to become practitioners. In the field, students have the opportunity to test what they learn in the classroom and to integrate theory with practice. During the senior year, Centenary BSW Program students complete a 420-hour structured field placement, working closely with an agency-based Field Instructor. All BSW Program Field Instructors are professional Social Workers who have completed a “Seminars in Field Instruction” (SIFI) certification program, which is offered at Centenary University.
