Biography

Candice Daly, LCSW, Associate Professor of Social Work & Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program Field Director for Centenary University.  The BSW Program at has earned national accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).   Professor Daly utilizes her over 20 years of practice experience to routinely teach Practice I & II courses.  These courses offer significant experiential learning opportunities to prepare for Fieldwork, including live simulations.  Senior Seminar is another routinely taught course that prepares students for a lifelong professional Social Work career including resume building, interviewing skills, and presenting a capstone presentation to demonstrate competency in CSWE’s core competencies.  As the BSW Field Director, she identifies potential field placement agencies, trains agency-based Field Instructors and coordinates and oversees field placements for all senior-year BSW students.  Within this role, she frequently teaches Field Seminar courses.   She was the Campus Academic Coordinator for the NJ Baccalaureate Child Welfare Education Program (BCWEP), which awards traineeships to selected social work students who have an interest in working for NJ’s Division of Child Protection & Permanency (formerly known as DYFS).  She actively assisted in the development of and taught the program’s first social work elective courses Child Welfare (a required BCWEP course) and Adolescents: Adulthood Under Construction course.

As the 2015 recipient of the United Methodist Exemplary Teaching Award at Centenary University, in recognition of her attention to the needs of the whole student as well as her commitment to preparing students for their professional careers. Our students describe Professor Daly as a supportive mentor who is “always willing to listen without judgment”.

Professor Daly was voted by Centenary University’s graduating class of 2019 and awarded the Accolade Award.  Students nominated this professor as they felt she has empowered them, changed them, and impacted their lives and future careers.

Prior to joining Centenary University, Professor Daly was the Director of a large non-profit family counseling agency.  She was elected to the National Association of Social Work (NASW-NJ) Board of Directors and was the Northwest Regional Representative.   Professor Daly served on the Sussex County Child Advocacy Center’s Education Committee, Sussex County Youth Services Commission, and was a member of multiple county Multi-Disciplinary Teams providing consultation for prosecutors involved in child abuse/neglect, domestic violence, and sexual assault cases.  Previous practice experience includes evaluation and recommendation of potential NJ foster and adoptive families; Family Preservation Services; Pre & Post Adoption Counseling; and Intensive Family Crisis Treatment.  She developed and facilitated a grant-funded prevention program in Essex County, NJ, employing an evidence-based curriculum to deliver group-based prevention services for at-risk youth.  She is a long-time member of the National Association of Social Work (NASW-NJ) as well as the CSWE.  She continues to provide clinical supervision on a consulting basis for individuals or for NJ-based agencies and organizations.

As a clinically licensed social worker, Professor Daly is an actively engaged social work practitioner, she maintains a private practice in Sussex County providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families.
