We would call it “acting” studies, but it is much more than that.

In Centenary University’s Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Theatre Arts, Performance Studies concentration, you will learn all the skills you need to pursue a life in the theatre. Yes, acting is big component of this concentration, but you will also study the theatre craft inside and out.

General Theatre

The Performance Studies curriculum includes acting workshops as well as classes in subjects including design and technical theatre, stage management and directing and even dance, lighting and set design. Combined with Centenary’s focus on a well-rounded liberal arts education, you will leave here ready for your next act — on stage and in life.

A Professional Experience

Centenary is home to Centenary Stage Company, a nonprofit professional theatre group. This unique relationship gives our Performance Studies students the opportunity to:

  • Act right alongside professional actors, including Broadway veterans, in Centenary Stage Company productions.
  • Train in three distinct performance venues in the Carol and David Lackland Center, widely considered the premier theatre of its kind in northwest New Jersey.
  • Perform in groups ranging from our touring Young Audience Series to main stage productions.

Learning by Doing

“Learning by doing” is the philosophy of all of our Theatre Arts programs. We believe that teaching students as much as possible about all aspects of the theatre will only enhance their career opportunities.

In fact, Centenary University and Centenary Stage Company have been lauded in publications including the New York Times and Star Ledger for their dedication to getting students on stage and at performances.
