Dear Student:

Welcome back! As we begin our academic year together, we hope that your student experience will be positive and healthy; however, we recognize that everyone goes through stressful times. With suicide being the second leading cause of death among college students, we want you to be aware of the services Centenary University has in place to support students and what you can do to assist another student who might be in distress.

Free, confidential mental health counseling and crisis intervention services are available through Counseling Center for all students at 605 Grand Ave. The contact phone number to make an appointment is 908-852-1400 x2125 and the email is Counselingcenter@centenaryuniversity.edu

If you or someone you know is in a crisis situation and having thoughts of death, dying or suicide please contact the Counseling Center to set up a crisis intervention session or come directly to the Center at 605 Grand Ave. We are open from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday during the fall and spring semesters.

In addition, counselors are available for psychological emergencies through ProtoCall Services 7 days/week whenever we are closed by calling our number 908-852-1400 x2125. After hours crisis counseling is available through ProtoCall Services. They work in conjunction with the staff of the Counseling Center and Residence Life. Information from these calls is forwarded to the professional staff of the Counseling Center the next business day for follow-up.

If you are not sure what to do about another student and s/he is NOT in immediate danger, you can share your concerns with Centenary University Student of Concern team at 908-852-1400 x2105. The team coordinates the support services of Centenary in order to assist students who have reportedly displayed troublesome or concerning behaviors.

The Counseling Center at Centenary University provides Suicide Prevention Programming to all members of the community who are interested in becoming trained on the signs of suicidal thinking and how to respond.
