The Hunter/Jumper Team provides students with the opportunity to compete throughout the academic year at both USEF rated and unrated competitions. In addition, the team organizes and manages schooling shows at the Equestrian Center that are open to students as well as local exhibitors.

The team’s competition year culminates annually with the Garden State Horse Show in early May. This competition, managed by Tim Cleary, Assistant Professor at Centenary University, is currently the largest “AA” horse show in the state of New Jersey. Students have the opportunity to compete either on their own horse or a University owned horse in the Hunter, Equitation, or Jumper divisions and gain valuable horse show experience throughout the week.

Membership on the team is limited to riders that are ready to compete at a minimum of 2’3”.   Team fundraising activities take place throughout the year to help offset the typical horse show expenses such as entries, shipping, and stabling.

Professor Tara Clausen has been the coach of the Hunter/Jumper team since 1998. Tara will take students off the property to local through ‘A’ rated shows. This team offers students a chance to compete on a quality mount without having to own their own horse. Tara has an excellent eye for determining what student and horse combination would work well together at a horse show. This team also allows the boarders, who own their own horses, to go to the horse shows with the team as well. Tara usually tries to go to 3-4 horse shows a semester.
