Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is a state-funded program for New Jersey students who are educationally and economically challenged and who are greatly underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.), and in the professions related to these fields. The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at Centenary University provides underserved students the opportunity, not only to earn a higher education degree, but also gain the soft skills necessary for a successful and fulfilling career by providing academic, social, and financial support.

We believe in your potential for success. With diverse backgrounds and a proven willingness to work outside of your comfort zone, you and program alumni are uniquely positioned to contribute to the campus and culture of Centenary University, both today and in the future.

EOP Details

Students who meet both New Jersey and Centenary University eligibility requirements are invited to join EOP. This program encourages integrity, critical thinking skills, academic rigor, community engagement, and financial independence.

It is based on a successful learning community model. The program has intense cooperation among staff, faculty, and administration with many student-directed activities. The program support system includes:

  • A 5-week Summer Enrichment EOP (required) that prepares you to succeed before your first semester even begins
  • Assistance in planning courses
  • Weekly progress check-ins
  • Leadership development
  • Career counseling and connections
  • Personal and academic counseling
  • Private tutoring

EOP Eligibility

  • Be a resident of New Jersey.
  • Must demonstrate an educationally and economically disadvantaged background—you can explore household and income qualifications here
  • Must be a New Jersey resident 12 consecutive months prior to receiving the award.
  • Must apply to and be accepted by Centenary University.
  • Must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application.
