The Psychology program at Centenary has operated a chapter of Psi Chi (The International Honor Society in Psychology) for the past 20+ years. The Psi Chi chapter provides academic recognition to its inductees through membership in an academic honor society.
The honor society is open to psychology majors at Centenary University who have completed at least 12-credits of the psychology major at Centenary University, have sophomore or higher status, have a major GPA of at least 3.20 and have an overall GPA of at least 3.20.
At the end of each academic semester, the faculty advisor and the Psychology Program review all GPAs and inform all eligible students that they may be inducted into Psi Chi.
About Psi Chi
Psi Chi is the International Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology.
Membership is open to graduate and undergraduate men and women who are making the study of psychology one of their major interests, and who meet the minimum qualifications. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS). Psi Chi’s sister honor society is Psi Beta, the national honor society in psychology for community and junior colleges.
Psi Chi serves two major goals. The first of these is the Society’s obligation to provide academic recognition to its inductees by the mere fact of membership.
The second goal is the obligation of each of the Society’s local chapters to nurture the spark of that accomplishment by offering a climate congenial to members’ creative development.
