Pop culture takes centerstage at Centenary University on Saturday, April 13, when the University will host its first pop culture convention from 10 am to 4 pm. Called CycloneCon—a reference to the Centenary University Cyclone mascot—the event will feature an exhibitor hall with nearly 100 vendors and artists, cosplay catwalk, Super Smash Bros Ultimate Tournament hosted by Oasis Online Arcade, panels, workshops, story time with superheroes, Star Wars trivia, Five Nights at Freddy’s Jeopardy, food trucks, and more. Also on hand will be the Collectible Conservancy, a one-stop shop for comic book pressing, cleaning, conservation, preservation, and grading submission.

Former Marvel Comics colorist Bob Sharen will make a special guest appearance at CycloneCon. During his 23-year career at Marvel, Sharen worked on almost every Marvel title, including over 160 issues of The Amazing Spider-Man, 99 issues of Alpha Flight, and over 60 issues of G.I. Joe, as well as Iron Manfor 10 years and Captain America for seven years. He now works full time on color commissions.

CycloneCon will also feature workshops on stage combat and theatrical makeup presented by Centenary University Associate Professor of Theatre Arts Stephen Davis. A member of the Actor’s Equity Association, he has extensive experience introducing all age groups—from pre-teens to college students—to various aspects of theatre.

“We are fortunate to have assembled a wonderful group of vendors, artists, and presenters for Centenary University’s first CycloneCon,” said Assistant Professor of English Erica McCrystal, Ph.D., who is coordinating the event. “This promises to be a fun day for people of all ages.”

Advance tickets for CycloneCon are $10 general admission and $5 for Centenary University students. Kids under 12 are free. Purchase tickets here.
