Hackettstown, N.J., April 24, 2017– The 2nd Annual Academic Symposium at Centenary University will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 27, 2017 in the Edward W. Seay Administration Building located at 400 Jefferson Street in Hackettstown. Presentations will take place in classrooms in the Seay Building from starting at 11:00 a.m., and various posters (and their creators) will be on display starting at noon. The symposium will showcase the achievements of over 100 students from various majors. Through posters and presentations, students will enlighten the school and local communities into the research projects they have been preparing all semester. This event is free and open to the public. We encourage learners of all ages to come experience the outcome of all the hard work and dedication students have poured into academic projects.
The symposium will consist of contributions from students in Biology, Business, Chemistry, Criminal Justice, English, Equine Science, Fashion, History, Physics, Social Work, Sports Marketing as well as extended presentations from the Student Life Department, Enactus, #theVibeTribe, and the School of International Studies. From ‘Splitting water for energy with mixed-metal-oxide catalysts’ to ‘The Experiences of Adolescent Girls on the Autism Spectrum Transitioning into Adulthood’, the symposium will encompass a variety of intriguing subjects.
Robert Battistini, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of English is coordinating this year’s event. He notes the unique opportunity the symposium poses for the community as well as the students, saying, “You’ve heard of the blind men trying to describe an elephant based on what each could feel: An elephant is floppy like an ear–No, hard like a tusk!–Wrong, muscular like a trunk!! That’s about how well we usually appreciate the breadth and significance of student accomplishment at Centenary. But on April 27, we will showcase in one place the best work happening in all departments, across all years.”
Dr. Battistini remarks, “Seay Hall will be field, stage, and classroom—but everyone wins, the stages are multiple, and the grade is always A+ at the Academic Symposium.”
