Campus Life 2024 Leadership Awards

The Eugene A. Noble Award: This award is given to a graduating senior who takes on leadership with an enthusiastic and unique style.

Recipient: Miron Miller

The Douglas Wolfe Turrell Community Service Award: This award is in memory of the son of Sally Wolfe Turrell ‘52, alumna. It is given to two (2) continuing students who demonstrate a strong commitment to community service on campus.

Recipients: Troy Sumpter & David Espino

The Centenary Spirit Cyclone Award: This award is given to a student who has displayed passion and supported spirit initiatives throughout their time at Centenary. This student demonstrates a sense of Centenary pride, identity, and community.

Recipient: Kai Vialva

The Jeanne Picariello- Murphy Award: This award honors the memory of First Lady Jeanne Murphy (2023) and her passion for service. It is presented to a student who has demonstrated a commitment to creating positive change for the campus, the Centenary community, and the world. This student possesses strong leadership skills, is passionate, and is dedicated to a particular issue or collection of issues.

Recipient: Rebecca Kopf

Commuter of the Year Award: This award is given to a student that does not allow “not living on campus” to hold them back. This student has strengthened commuter programs and/or served as an example of outstanding campus involvement as a commuter.

Recipient: Maria Juanita Franco

The Robert Trevorrow Award: This award is given to a student for a faithful performance in an important office.

Recipient: Kane Montan

The Catapano Family Community Service Award: This award honors a well-rounded underclassman student who is compassionate and community minded. This student has shown excellence in volunteerism, leadership and is committed to making a difference in the community.

Recipient: Michael Rash

The Culture and Community Award: This award recognizes a student who exemplifies behavior invested in the support of culture and identity at Centenary. This student has dedicated time and energy to support various cultures via programming and activities in co-curricular areas throughout the community. This person has identified with the needs of marginalized or underrepresented populations and provided safe, educational, and welcoming events and programs to build inclusion and belonging at Centenary.

Recipient: Osaivbie Igiebor

Greek Leadership Award: This award is presented to a Greek life board member who has done a phenomenal job in their leadership role and who has exemplified the ideals of their fraternity or sorority.

Recipient: Senam Atadja

The Beacon for the Region Award: This award is given in honor of Centenary’s twelfth President Barbara Lewthwaite. This award honors a student who is doing extraordinary work and addressing critical issues not only on the university campus, but also in the local area. This is an individual who brings distinction to themselves and to Centenary University through their outstanding professional and personal achievements, loyal service, and exemplary service to their communities.

Recipient: Kayla Diee

Outstanding Community Engagement Group Award: This award honors a student organization that has made and may still be making significant contributions to their community by sharing their time, actions, talents, and dedication. The organization selected serves as a role model for compassion, service, and strives to make the world a better place.

Recipient: Omega Rho, Osaivbie Igiebor, Jayden Hall & Troy Sumpter

Student Organization of the Year Award: This award is presented to an organization that has made a significant effort to further its purpose through its contribution to Centenary University and our community. This award recognizes the student organization that has demonstrated initiative, creativity, and perseverance through activities and programs. Furthermore, the organization has shown commitment to leadership development, collaboration with other groups, and programing that enhance the quality of campus life.

Recipient: SAAC (Student Athletic Advisory Committee), Antonia Cacoprado, Julia Campen, Kelly Ann Earrusso, Kayla Sampong & Jasmine Sampong

The Dr. Charles Frederickson Award: This award is in honor of Professor Emeritus Dr. Frederickson, a Professor of Psychology at Centenary University for twenty-nine years. It is given to a student who evidences high ethical behavior and leads others to make positive life-choices.

Recipient: Lynn Roberto

The Resident Assistant of the Year Award: This award recognizes an outstanding individual who has demonstrated exemplary leadership, dedication, and service in their role as a resident assistant within our residential community. This prestigious award celebrates the recipient’s commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive living environment, their effective mentorship of residents, their innovative programming initiatives, and their overall positive impact on the campus community. The recipient of this award embodies the core values of integrity, empathy, and teamwork, and serves as a role model for their peers and residents alike.

Recipient: Paige Lent

The Resident Assistant Rising Star Award: This award celebrates the exceptional contributions of a new resident assistant who has made a significant impact in their first year of service within our residential community. This award recognizes the recipient’s rapid adaptation to their role, their proactive approach to building community among residents, and their dedication to supporting the well-being and development of those under their care. Despite being new to the position, the recipient demonstrates exemplary leadership qualities, innovative programming ideas, and a commitment to creating a positive living environment for all residents. This award highlights the recipient’s promising potential and their dedication to upholding the values of community, empathy, and inclusivity within their residential community.

Recipient: Rose Heller

First Generation Student of the Year Award: This award honors one graduating undergraduate student who has shown resilience, determination, and grit as a first-generation scholar. This student has gone above and beyond to prove that being first-generation is an amazing accomplishment being the first in their family to graduate college. This graduate has overcome barriers and paved a path to success for their peers. The nominee must demonstrate continued success in academic, professional, and personal growth.

Recipient: Michael Tichy

First Generation Pioneer Award: This award is awarded to an undergraduate first-generation student for their commitment to academic excellence, achievement, and leadership at Centenary. They have pursued and met ambitious personal and professional goals while demonstrating a commitment to campus engagement during their time at Centenary.

Recipient: Litzy Diaz

The Judith Deacon Tartaglia Memorial Award: This award is given to a student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership on campus. This student has also demonstrated selfless decision-making skills in support of the university’s overall mission and goals.

Recipient: Giovanni D’Egidio

Centenary Trifecta Award: celebrating the outstanding achievements of university students who embody the essence of intellectual curiosity, emotional resilience, and intercultural competency. This prestigious accolade honors those who not only excel academically but also demonstrate a profound capacity to navigate diverse perspectives, overcome challenges, and foster meaningful connections across cultures. Join us in recognizing these 3 exceptional individuals who inspire innovation, empathy, and understanding in our global community.

Advisor of the Year Award: This award is given to a staff or faculty member that chooses to share their time and talents with a student organization and has done an outstanding job helping students to create and/or run a club.

Recipient: Diana Alzate

President of the Year Award: This award is given to a student who has actively led a group or organization on campus. This student has exhibited vision for their organization, effective communication skills, and the courage to make solid decisions with integrity and confidence.

Recipient: Victoria Schirripa

Lotte Honors Award: This award is presented annually to a second-year student who has displayed great achievement and displays great promise as they continue their Centenary career. It is the highest honor given to an undergraduate student – awarded to someone who is engaged in campus life, serves our community, and works to create and maintain events and traditions at Centenary, while maintaining a high GPA.

Recipient: Gabriella Filian

Seay Honors Award: This award is presented annually to a member of the graduating senior class in honor of Edward Seay, the ninth president of Centenary University who served the institution for twenty-eight years. It is the highest honor given to a senior – awarded to someone who has fully engaged in campus life, served our community, and worked to create and maintain events and traditions at Centenary, all while maintaining a high GPA.
